2. Entry Requirements

The general University admission policy is based on NUC approved admission requirement. Candidates offered admission must fulfil the minimum entry requirements stated against the Faculties into which they are admitted. For B.Sc Sociology, candidates may be admitted into the programme either at 100 Level (Regular UTME) or at 200 Level (Direct Entry).

Candidates who come in through UTME are required to spend a minimum of 4 years (Academic Sessions) and maximum of 6 years(Academic Sessions) while candidates who come in through Direct Entry (200 level) will spend a minimum of 3 years (Academic Sessions)and maximum of 5 years (Academic Sessions).

(a) 100 Level Admissions

Candidates for 100 Level admission must have obtained:

Five ‘O’Level Credit including Mathematics, English Language, Government or History plus credit pass in any other two Arts or Social Science subjects at the SSC, NECO, GCE or their equivalent in not more than two sittings.

High enough scores in the JAMB UTME to meet or exceed the cut-off point set for the year in which their applications are being considered.

(b) 200 Level (Direct Entry) Admissions

Candidates for 200 Level (Direct Entry) admission must fulfill the following:

Candidates for Direct Entry admission to study B.Sc. Sociology degree programme must have at least a minimum of “C” in two (2) Advanced Level Arts courses including Sociology, and Credits in English Language and in Mathematics in SSE, NECO, GCE or equivalents. The two passes at Advanced level or four (4) credits passes which shall be at advanced level shall not be counted at both levels of the examinations. For emphasis, four (4) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government or History and any of Geography, Economics and Civic Education is compulsory.

Candidates who have lower credit in Diploma in Social Work and Development Studies (DSWD) of the Department shall be eligible for direct entry admission.

3. Graduation Requirements

Candidates who come in through UTME are required to earn a minimum of 120 credit units including all compulsory courses specified by the University/Department. Candidates who come in through Direct Entry (200 level) must earn 90 credit units.
