The Dean welcomes all to the Faculty of Social Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Created in 1997, it is one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic faculty in the University, drawing faculty and students from diverse Nigerian societies. It has three academic Departments, namely; Mass Communication, Political Science & International Studies and Sociology. These Departments run many programmes of national and international relevance at both Undergraduate and Post–graduate levels. With a student population of well over 4,000 at all levels of learning and an academic staff population of over 105, the Faculty is one of the largest and most vibrant in the University and it is still growing, striving towards excellence in all aspects.

The establishment of the Master in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) and Master in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ) Programmes which have been impacting positively on the career development of Professionals across all fields of endeavour, and which have also been copied by many Universities around, the running of the ABU FM radio, Samaru Campus, and the publication of the Campus Herald Newspaper by the Mass Communication students of the Faculty, the winning of prestigious awards by students and staff e.g. the NUC award for the best Doctoral Thesis for certain sessions, the Vice – Chancellor’s Merit Award, Fulbright, MacArthur, and some other International fellowships awards, e.t.c.

The Faculty hosted an outstanding International Conference on National Security, Integration and sustainable Development in Nigeria in 2012 and is planning to host another one soon. This is apart from regular in – house Seminars across Departments; it is also home to four qualitative journals, i.e.; Zaria Journal of Social Sciences (published by the Faculty itself), Nigerian Journal of Political Science (published by the Department of Political Science & International Studies), the Zaria Sociological Journal (published by the Department of Sociology),and the Zaria Journal of Communication (published by the Department of Mass Communication). Apart from its students, staff and other physical assets, the Faculty considers itself lucky to have as special assets an enormous number of Alumni spread across all fields of endeavour nationally and internationally. The Dean welcomes all and sundry who want to be part of the success story of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.
