The general University admission policy is based on NUC approved admission requirement. Candidates offered admission must fulfil the minimum entry requirements stated against the Faculties into which they are admitted. For B.Sc Mass Communication, candidates may be admitted into the programme either at 100 Level (Regular UTME) or at 200 Level (Direct Entry).
Candidates for 100 Level admission must have obtained:
Five ‘O’Level Credit in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History/Civic Education, Economics/Commerce/Financial Accounting, any Nigerian Language, and CRS/IRS plus Use of English, Government/History/Economics and any other subject at UTME level.
Registered the following subjects and sat for the examinations through the JAMB UTME: Use of English, Government, History/Agriculture and any one of Economics or Mathematics.
High enough scores in the JAMB UTME to meet or exceed the cut-off point set for the year in which their applications are being considered.

Candidates for 200 Level (Direct Entry) admission must fulfill the following:
Diploma in Mass Communication from A.B.U or any recognized University with a minimum of Merit Pass or IJMB of A.B.U in at least 3 Subjects with minimum of ‘C’ grade passes which must include Government/History, Economics or any Nigerian Languages.
Five ‘O’Level Credit in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History/Civic Education, Economics/Commerce/Financial Accounting, any Nigerian Language, and CRS/IRS.
The UTME Candidates have a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 6 years to graduate while the direct entry candidates have a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years to graduate. For the UTME, a minimum of 120 credit units must be passed before graduation, including the General Studies and Electives. In the case of direct entry, a minimum of 90 credit units must be passed before graduation, including the General Studies and Electives. Thus, in every semester, a minimum of 15 and maximum of 24 credit unit units can be registered for.
Also, part of the requirements for graduation is the IT programme. All 400 level students must undergo an eight weeks SIWES training in either print or broadcast media organization where the students are expected to be exposed to practical work experiences.
